Activities, Clubs & Organizations
Students at MHS have a wide array of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to choose from. More than 35 different clubs and organizations offer something for every passion:
The goal of the "Pebbles" newspaper is to inform and entertain the student body at MHS. "Pebbles" gives students a chance to make decisions and become comfortable with equipment that is at least equal to the hardware and software available at most newspapers and colleges.
The goals for the Pebbles staff include creating a product that is good for the student body and one that falls within the limitations of the budget. "Pebbles" will help students learn to meeting deadlines, write stories and work with diverse individuals.
The dance team is comprised of two teams which is coached by Shea Lunsford. The first team is a competition pom team. We compete at the Iowa State Dance competition. The second team is a competition hip-hop team which is in its first year of existence. We perform many performances throughout the year including: the Marshall County fair, football games, the homecoming parade, coronation, pancake day, basketball games, the Big Brother/Big Sister basketball game, and many assemblies.
Prospective dancers go through a week long process learning different routines and audition for a spot on the team. Members who make the team participate in three fundraisers to pay for a choreographer as well as uniforms. Selected members of the team have an opportunity to audition for the All-Iowa Honor Dance team. If a selected member of the team makes the Honor team, they perform at the half-time of the Girl's state basketball game. Multiple members have made the team in the past.
Dance team is a positive extra-curricular activity which provides an outlet for artistic expression. Members of the team enjoy spending time together, learning routines, and having fun. It is an activity to keep girls and boys healthy while developing life-long friends.
