Franklin Elementary collects $1,547.90 for Relay for Life

Franklin Elementary students collected $1,547.90 for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, celebrating Wednesday by “throwing slime at cancer”.

Franklin students collected the money through a penny war. Principal Tim Holmgren presented a check for Relay for Life to Franklin teacher Shirley Mann during an assembly June 1. Mann told the students about her daughter, who lost her battle with cancer, and how their support of the Relay for Life supports research to find a cure.

Nancy VanWyk’s fourth grade class had the top points in the penny war and collected $215. As a reward the students took turns throwing “slime balls” at a poster depicting cancer cells.
