Members of the Marshalltown High School Class of 1969 gathered Sunday to dedicate landscaping around the school’s two signs.
For their 40th reunion in 2009 the class raised more than $25,000 for a new electronic sign on the corner of Olive Street and Second Avenue. With the project complete and still nearly $1,000 left in funds, the classmates decided to install landscaping around the signage in front of the high school.
Members of the class met principal Aiddy Phomvisay in front of the sign Sunday afternoon before their monthly social gathering to celebrate the project and officially dedicate it.
Chase Landscaping did the landscaping and district Buildings & Grounds chipped in some of the cost to help complete the project. Class member Lew Miller told the assembled group he hopes other classes take the initiative to reinvest in the schools and community.
