Students collected 750 books, delivering them to elementary schools

National Honor Society students from Marshalltown High School held a community-wide book drive recently with a goal to collect 370 donated books, so they could give one to each third grader in the district. The drive was a huge success as it totaled 750 books, said MHS senior Jane Ragland.

“I think the community was really generous,” Ragland said.

The students started delivering the books to Marshalltown elementary schools on March 4 beginning with Franklin Elementary School, where MHS students read to the third graders as they delivered the books.

Ragland said many of the leftover books and those books not at third grade level will be donated to the Marshalltown Public Library.
