RACOM donates $25,000 to Roundhouse project

RACOM Corporation of Marshalltown donated $25,000 to the Roundhouse renovation last Thursday.

Bobcat alumni Mike Miller (’86) and Nick and Carrie Loney (’93) presented the check to Marshalltown High School Principal Aiddy Phomvisay and Activities Director Craig Huegel.

“RACOM is proud to be a Diamond Sponsor for this project,” Miller said. “As company owners, supporting the Roundhouse is a huge benefit for our employees and their families as well as for the community at large.”

Aiddy Phomvisay, MHS Principal, and Craig Huegel, MHS Activities Director, accepted the $25,000 donation.  “We so appreciate the support of RACOM and the many other businesses and individuals that are stepping up to the plate!” says Huegel.

Gary Schaudt, co-chair for the MHS Roundhouse Renovation Committee says that several other businesses have shown their enthusiasm for the project, giving at the Platinum Level ($10,000 to $24,999) and Diamond Level ($25,000 or more).  To date these include: Attorneys at Law (Moore, McKibben, Goodman, Lorenz, Beals, Horn, Meade, Heitmann, and Ruopp), Emerson, Farmers Savings Bank, Great Western Bank, Independent Insurance Services, Shomo-Madsen Insurance, and the Times Republican.

Schaudt also comments that businesses are being creative and providing support in whatever way they can.  McFarland Clinic was the first business to offer a payroll deduction. Through this opportunity, Marshalltown providers and employees pledged more than $25,000.

Schaudt also encourages community members to print off coupons from the Renovate the Roundhouse page on Facebook.  Present these coupons when you’re eating at Legends or filling-up your vehicle at Jiffy, and a portion will be donated back to the Roundhouse!

To date, more than $440,000 has been raised to meet the $1 million Martha-Ellen Tye Challenge Grant.  Schaudt says, “We have been actively fundraising for just two months.  We couldn’t be happier with the support we are receiving!  We have a lot of work left to do, but thanks to the generosity of donors thus far, I feel the $3.85 million dollar goal is well within our reach!”

Pledge forms are available at www.mhsroundhouse.com.  You can also follow the fundraising efforts on Facebook at Renovate the Roundhouse.  Donations are tax deductible and should be directed to Marshalltown Community School District Foundation, P.O. Box 1562, Marshalltown, IA 50158.
