AMES — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team brought home a pair of silver medals from Ankeny’s Toni Dickey Invitational, finishing second in the 12-team tournament powered by a runner-up finish for Natalie Henson.

Henson shot a 3-over-par round of 74 to tie for the low score of the day, but Macy Button of Ames won the cardback with her matching 74 at Otter Creek Golf Course.

The Little Cyclones took the team title, too, carding a 314 thanks to four of the eight low scores of the tournament. The Bobcats had two of the top four scores, with senior Gaby Estabrook adding an 8-over 79 that earned her fifth place.

Marshalltown was comfortably in second place in the final team standings, shooting a 337 — well ahead of third-place West Des Moines Valley (363).

Harper Wilson and Morgan Hilderbrand shot matching 92s to round out the Bobcats’ team score.

“Getting two rounds in the 70s at the top of our lineup put us in a great position to compete against a strong field,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “Natalie and Gaby have played three straight state tournaments at Otter Creek, so it’s a course they’re really comfortable with. Their experience was especially evident with their lines off the tee and knowing when to attack holes and pins.

“Natalie was a little frustrated not getting the win outright given that she had three three-putt pars, but it shows how close she is to some really low scores.”

Henson had a pair of birdies to counteract five bogeys. Both Henson and Estabrook shot 1-over 37s on the front nine.

Emma Clawson (97) and Hallie Kuhlers (107) rounded out the Bobcats’ scoring efforts on the day.

Marshalltown is back in action Monday with the Lamson Invite hosted by Valley at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines.
