WATERLOO — The Marshalltown volleyball team stopped a seven-match losing skid by beating Waterloo East 3-1 on Tuesday night in Iowa Alliance Conference North Division action.
The host Trojans (0-12, 0-2) won the first set before falling to the Bobcats 24-26, 25-11, 25-22, 26-24.
Marshalltown (3-7, 2-1) flourished on the outside attack, getting 10 kills apiece from Kinsley Bowie and Bella Avise to lead the offense. Brooklyn Smith added six kills, setter Lauren O’Neal had six kills, while Harper Wilson (5) and Kendall Brummel (4) contributed as well. O’Neal finished with 33 assists.
Smith stood tall at the net for MHS with five solo blocks. Senior libero Gianna Baune led the defense with 14 digs, O’Neal had 13, and Bowie added 10.
Avise was a perfect 22-for-22 with an ace to lead at the service line for Marshalltown. O’Neal was 18-of-20 with two aces, while Baune was 16-for-16. Bowie had a team-high three aces.
