COVID-19 Information for families and staff

Important announcement regarding COVID-19 (updated April 20, 2020)

In accordance with a mandate from Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Marshalltown Community School District facilities will remain closed through the end of the current school year, including all extracurricular activities and events. The last day of school for students is set for Thursday, June 4, 2020. Monday, June 8, 2020 will be the last work day for teachers. MCSD administrators, teachers and staff are working with the Iowa Department of Education on continuing to provide voluntary learning from home during the closure. Actualización importante de MCSD con respecto al COVID-19 (Actualizado el 20 de abril de 2020)

De acuerdo con un mandato de la Gobernadora de Iowa Kim Reynolds, las instalaciones del Distrito Escolar Comunitario de Marshalltown permanecerán cerradas hasta el final del año escolar actual, incluidas todas las actividades y eventos extracurriculares. El último día de clases para los estudiantes está programado para el jueves 4 de junio de 2020. El lunes 8 de junio de 2020 será el último día de trabajo para los maestros. What MCSD is doing/Lo que MCSD está haciendo

- Closing school through the end of the 2019-2020 school year for the safety of MCSD students, staff and the Marshalltown Community. (Estamos cerrando la escuela por el resto del año escolar 2019-2020

- Offering the MCSD Voluntary Continuous Learning plan from April 13-30 both online and via paper packets/Ofrecemos el plan de Aprendizaje Continuo Voluntario MCSD del 13 al 30 de abril tanto en línea como a través de paquetes en papel

Limiting general public access to MCSD facilities/Estamos limitando el acceso público general a las instalaciones de MCSD. This closure includes all MCSD playground equipment/Incluyendo todos los Patios de Recreo/Campos de Juegos de MCSD.

- Providing a grab-n-go sack lunch at each school site between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. weekdays to any child age 18 or younger (Se ofrecerán almuerzos para llevar gratis para todos los niños de 18 años y menores de 11:30 a.m. a 1 p.m. durante la semana). This includes the new Meals Close to Home program (Programa Comidas Cerca a Casa), which will see six bus routes deliver drop-off meals around the district during the week beginning March 23.

- Providing academic engagement and resources through Chromebooks, which the district shared with 1,600 students in March. If you have any questions about Chromebooks, please visit the MCSD Technology Department website. - All departments have been and will continue to be engaged in deep cleaning surfaces and spaces throughout the district, especially communal spaces (Todos los departamentos han estado y seguirán participando en áreas y espacios de limpieza profunda en todo el distrito, especialmente espacios comunes). 

- Encouraging all students, staff, families, and community members to follow the hygiene guidelines recommended by medical experts, including social distancing and frequent hand washing (Estamos animando a todos los estudiantes, personal, familias y miembros de la comunidad a seguir las pautas de higiene recomendadas por los expertos médicos, incluyendo el distanciamiento social y el lavado frecuente de manos). 

- Communicating any updates to parents and staff as it pertains to COVID-19 via email, text message, social media, and the district website.

What you can do/Lo que puedes hacer

- If a student or staff member is sick, they should not come to school/Si un estudiante o miembro del personal está enfermo, no debe venir a la escuela.

- Cover your mouth with your upper arm or a tissue when coughing or sneezing/Cúbrase la boca con la parte superior del brazo o un pañuelo de papel al toser o estornudar.

- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available/Lávese las manos a menudo con agua y jabón durante al menos 20 segundos. Use un desinfectante de manos a base de alcohol que contenga al menos 60% de alcohol si no hay agua y jabón disponibles.

- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands/Evite tocarse los ojos, la nariz y la boca con las manos sin lavar.

- Avoid close contact with people who are sick/Evite el contacto cercano con personas enfermas.

- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces/Limpiar y desinfectar objetos y superficies frecuentemente tocados.
