About the district

Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) is a dynamic and diverse school district located in central Iowa. The district educates about about 5,300 kids and is one of the largest employers in the city of Marshalltown employing nearly 900 people. It boasts 11 attendance centers.

Marshalltown Community School District offers a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of students from preschool through high school, including specialized programs for students with unique learning needs.


Demographics

MCSD is excited about the unique opportunity of working with such a diverse student population. With the third most saturated population of English Language Learners in the state of Iowa, 31%, our district is poised to prioritize biliteracy and multiliteracy. Culturally, about 54% of our kids identify as Latino. Whereas, 30% of our kids identify as White or Caucasian with a growing percentage of kids who identify as Asian, 7.5%. About three and a half percent of our kids identify as Black or African American. And then everyone else will identify in a multi-categorical way.

Technology

Marshalltown Community School District places a priority on providing and implementing technology to provide access to content to students as well as prepare students for an ever-changing world. MCSD currently has a plan to expose grades PK-12 to computer science and coding instruction. A Chromebook is provided for each student from grades PK-12. Students in grades 5-12 are able to take their devices home every night. The district has also provided over 400 hotspots to help students and families gain access to content through internet access.

The Marshalltown Community School District Activities Department offers students the opportunity to compete and perform in an environment that supports student athlete growth as they compete and perform at their highest level. Participation is a privilege and being a Bobcat prioritizes appropriate sporting conduct, value all who choose to participate and develop a well rounded education experience.
