MHS senior selected for All-Iowa Honor Dance Team

Marshalltown High School senior Lainey Crawford has been selected for the 2012 All-Iowa Honor Dance Team, an elite dance troupe that will perform during the Girls State Basketball Tournament.

Crawford was among 600 girls across the state that auditioned for the team last September. During the daylong audition, dancers learn, rehearse and perform three routines. From there, 250 girls are selected based on strong technique and memorization.

“Lainey is great at both of those things,” said Shea Lunsford, head dance team coach. “After trying out we heard that she made the team and we were really excited.”

Crawford is one of 40 performers who will dance during the pregame show during

“It is a really intensive process and includes hours of constant rehearsal to make sure it’s perfect,” Lunsford said. “They learn their routine in 3 hours on Thursday and are expected to perform it perfectly Friday and Saturday night.”

Rehearsals will be held March 1, with performances during the pregame show Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
