Students from Marshalltown Learning Academy visited with area legislators at the state capitol building during Alternative Education Day Feb. 14.

MLA educators Mickie Hovel and Elizabeth Poock traveled with the MLA students, who met with Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and heard about the governor’s new education bill.

Rep. Mark Smith gave students a tour of the capitol, including the whispering gallery, the law library and house and senate chambers. He also discussed important Iowa Supreme Court cases.

The students also had a display at the capitol building with examples of student work, photos, and information about how MLA operates.
