OPERA Iowa visited Marshalltown elementary schools this week, holding workshops and performing “Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing”.

Arts and Children Together, an organization focused on providing artistic experiences to elementary students, brought OPERA Iowa to the schools.

This is the 25th year of OPERA Iowa, a 13-week regional arts education tour that brings young talent from across the nation into schools to educate about and foster a love for the arts.

Performers with OPERA Iowa held workshops that discussed the different kinds of voices (alto, soprano, etc.), as well as the history of opera and how different vocal ranges represent different characters or feelings.

After workshops the students watched a performance of the opera “Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing” performed by OPERA Iowa with student participation in some of the music.
