Marshalltown student art on display at State Historical Building

Artwork by Marshalltown Community School District students is on display at the State Historical Society of Iowa as part of the 2014 Youth Art Month Show.

Lenihan students Suan Deih Sang, Renna Neuan, Nathan Davenport, Autumn Tiernan, Lisbeth Cervantes, Jasmine Mendoza, Anastasia Pohle, and Olivia Whaley and Miller students Braden Bethke, April Htoo and Suan Mung were selected to be part of a display of more than 200 pieces of art by students all over the state.

Whaley and Davenport also received the Governor’s Award. Their art will hang in the governor’s office during Youth Art Month.

Youth Art Month is a time to celebrate the value of art education, which develops critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, community awareness and visual communication skills.

Students and their families were invited to attended a reception March 1 in Des Moines to celebrate the opening of the show.
