MCSD receives new orchestra instruments from Marshalltown Youth Foundation

The Marshalltown Youth Foundation (MYF) purchased nine new orchestra instruments for use by students in Marshalltown schools.

“The orchestra received one bass, three cellos and five violins all together,” said 5-12 orchestra director Derek Claussen. “This was a huge investment that the Marshalltown Youth Foundation made to help promote string education in town.  Because of this generous donation these students now have an instrument to play and there is no financial hardship on the families.”

The donation was made possible by grants the Marshalltown Youth Foundation received from the Community Foundation of Marshall County and its STEP program.

This is just part of the MYF instrument lending library which is utilized by dozens of Marshalltown students in band from fifth grade through high school. The MYF also helps pay for portions of sports and activities registration for youth involved in leagues throughout town.
