Film festival showcases work by Lenihan students

Lenihan English Language Learners and their families filled IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center yesterday for the “Fighting for Justice Film Festival”, featuring films written and produced by ELL students.

Twenty films were screened at the Oprheum, all focused on the Underground Railroad, Martin Luther King, Jr., César Chávez or injustices in Burma.

Working on the films helped students hone their English skills by identifying main ideas, paraphrasing, and writing correct sentences.

The students used Microsoft MovieMaker to create their films, recording their voices for narration and using appropriate images – and sometimes the students’ own drawings – to illustrate the stories.
