MHS Jazz Bands host, compete in State Jazz Festival

Marshalltown High School hosted the Iowa High School Music Association Class 2A/4A State Jazz Festival Saturday, Jan. 26, with MHS Jazz I earning top marks.

Sixteen bands from eleven schools performed in Marshalltown before a panel of three judges: Curtiss Klein of Fort Dodge; Terry Hazlik of Omaha, Neb.; and Mark Door of West Des Moines.

Bands also received clinics after their performances with Chris Merz from Cedar Falls and Brent Sandy from Iowa City.

Marshalltown’s Jazz I earned a Division I ranking for their performance. Jazz II earned a Division II ranking.

The MHS jazz bands will next travel to Cedar Falls to compete in the Tallcorn Jazz Festival at UNI on February 15 and MHS Jazz II will compete in the Hoover Jazz Festival on March 2 in Des Moines.
