Twenty-one art students attended the Central Iowa Metro League Conference Art Show on Wednesday, April 10, at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, with five students winning Blue Merit awards.

The show featured works of art from six schools in the CIML Conference: Ames, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Mason City, West Des Moines Valley and Waukee. Marshalltown students winning Blue Merit awards were Dahlia Leonard (drypoint printmaking of a classroom still life), Marcus Chaloupek (graphic design poster featuring Harley Davidson motorcycle), Austin Butcher (large raku-fired pot), Sydney Davis (computer designed poster in the area of Design), and Lucas Snyder (altered book with computer parts glued inside).

Marshalltown students winning Honorable Mention awards were Dahlia Leonard (tempera batik self-portrait painting), Julio Cesar Saucedo (white pencil on black paper drawing of Glenwood resident Bette Etter), Raul Perez Gonzalez (CD cover graphic design), Chione Brooks (ceramic teapot),  and Natalie Sanchez (Picasso-portrait in 9th grade 2-D artwork).

Students attended a variety of art workshops and were treated to a buffet lunch by ICCC. The day ended with the presentations of awards. Scholarship opportunities are available for award winners.

Art teachers accompanying the students were Kirk Niehouse, Jhanell Alsamhan, and Julie Bousum. The teachers were pleased with student accomplishments and commented on the quality of the show.
