FoodPrize2015

Marshalltown High School students Dayana Carrera, left, and Unmesh Datar participated in the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute Oct. 15-17 in Des Moines.

Marshalltown High School senior Dayana Carrera and junior exchange student Unmesh Datar participated in the World Food Prize Global Youth Institute held in Des Moines Oct. 15 through 17.

Dayana and Unmesh joined 200 other students from across the country as well as the world as they learned about food security issues and possible solutions to these issues.

As part of the institute, each student presented a research paper that they wrote about a food insecurity issue in a specific country. Both MHS students chose to focus their research on water scarcity. Dayana’s work focused on the issue in Mexico and Unmesh focused on his home country of India.
