MHS Science Olympiad team competes at state contest

The Marshalltown High School Science Olympiad team competed at the state contest on April 9 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. The team placed ninth out of 16 teams. Mt. Vernon High School placed first.

Medalists from MHS included: Juan Andrade and Maggie Grimm earned first in Forensics; Maggie Grimm, Stefan Peng and Collin Krukow were second in Protein Modeling; and Stefan Peng and Collin Krukow were second in Astronomy and third in Dynamic Planet.

This tournament is a team-based competition that consists of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.
