Several Marshalltown High School students have been selected as part of the All-State Music ensembles and will plan to perform with the other top high school musicians in Iowa at the All-State Festival on November 19 at Iowa State University.

The students qualified after successful performances at the auditions held October 22 at Hampton-Dumont High School.

Qualifying in the All-State Chorus from MHS are Nick Cooper, Lucas Thiessen, Hadley Wagner and Kassie Wilkins. First alternates include Frank Iole and Bell Russell.

Cooper said it was “very exhilarating” to qualify and said he will continue to learn throughout the process.

“I’ve already learned a lot from the audition experience,” Cooper said.

Qualifying in the All-State Band is Olivia Stone on the bass clarinet, with first alternates being Luke Wymore (baritone saxophone) and Malory Henze (French horn). Stone said she can’t wait to perform with other top high school musicians in the state.

“It’s going to be a really good experience,” Stone said.

Gesa Voigt qualified for the All-State Orchestra on the violin.
