Miller musicians selected for SCIBA Honor Bands

Seven Miller Middle School students participated in the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) honor bands Nov. 6 in Johnston.

The young musicians were among students from 22 schools schools in SCIBA. Participants rehearsed from 1 to 5 p.m. and held a concert that evening.

“The concert was, as usual, a great performance by these young musicians!” said Sarah Baldus, director of middle school bands.

Seventh grade students were selected from a list of nominees, while eighth grade students went through an audition process in early October and had to perform prepared scales and etudes for judges.

Seventh graders from Miler participating were: Olivia Arneson, French horn; Lucas Duff, bassoon; Ben Harris, alto saxophone; Victoria Johnson, bari saxophone; Jacqueline Wahl, oboe.

Eighth graders selected were: Frank Iole, trombone, and Nick Cooper, trumpet.
